Data Engineer

We’re looking for a Data Engineer ready to impact sustainable travel significantly. You’ll be part of a dynamic team that drives the development of solutions that enable hotels and online marketplaces to embrace sustainability effortlessly so they, in turn, can offer sustainable choices to travelers.

Who are we:

Welcome to BeCause, The Sustainability Data Management hub. We're creating a future where making sustainable choices is effortless for decision-makers in industries like Travel & Tourism, enabling prosperity for all. Imagine booking a trip and easily choosing sustainable hotels, restaurants, and more, promoting businesses that lead in responsibility and sustainability. Our goal is to merge travel with positive impact, allowing you to explore the world responsibly and with peace of mind.

Our platform, Because.eco, uses AI to offer businesses the simplest, most intelligent way to manage their sustainability efforts and data, automatically boosting their positive impact on society, the environment, and profits. We streamline, collect, and share sustainability achievements, connecting an ecosystem of hotels, marketplaces, certifiers, and other stakeholders, all unified in one platform.

BeCause is rapidly growing, with a proven product that's garnered prestigious awards and partnerships with industry giants like Google and Booking.com. Supported by a strong investor group, we're poised for even greater success.

We're just starting, and there's room for you to join us as our newest Data Engineer, helping us to enhance our solutions and seize a vast market opportunity.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement data storage and data sharing frameworks on top of Azure SQL Databases, Azure Queues, Azure Blob Storages, and Azure Cosmos DB to enable an efficient data reuse foundation for analytics across our IT landscape.
  • Design, develop, improve, and maintain heuristics in either Python or C#, which will be part of the foundation for BeCause’s data-matching engine for the currently scattered sustainability data across the travel sector.
  • Creating the strategy, foundation, and fine-tuning of LLMs at BeCause, which will provide the users with predictive analytics and recommendations and further strengthen our data-matching capacities across the data sets of the actors in the travel ecosystem.
  • Analyze and visualize platform and market data to understand market trends, user dynamics, and customer behavior. Provide configurable insights to colleagues at BeCause using tools like Power BI or similar visualizations and solutions.
  • Integrate AI assistants and Copilots into BeCause to assist the users with valuable insights into their decision-making processes, helping them make the correct sustainable choices for their companies.

You will thrive if you have:

  • Proficiency in managing and working with databases such as Azure SQL DB and Cosmos DB.
  • Experience in finetuning LLMs, data matching, and building recommendation engines.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills, e.g., with Power BI.
  • Expertise in designing and optimizing heuristics for solving complex challenges, such as mapping data between large semi-structured datasets with inherent data flaws.
  • Experience in building AI-powered applications.
  • Solid programming skills and familiarity with Azure and possibly .NET.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps & Repos for codebases; effective use of Microsoft Teams for collaboration within project teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Work closely with our product managers to understand the business requirements and user needs that must be solved.
  • Like collaborating with software engineers to integrate AI capabilities into our products and services.
  • Lightly train the remaining (software) engineers at BeCause, as they are also curious about data science.
  • Enjoys enhancing AI solutions to achieve progressively better results continuously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
